History
Creation
It was created on May 1, 1971 by Decree of the National Executive Power within a program to adapt Argentine university education to the needs of development, which had proposed the Taquini Plan and as a response to a strong local and regional social movement that allowed the greatest cultural conquest of the region, seat of the same name in the Province of Córdoba.
Its creation was a significant milestone in which all social sectors of the local and regional community participated with tenacious effort. It represents a typical example of community management because it was an achievement of mobilized men and institutions with clear objectives and great collective maturity, a fact that has been the hallmark of its genesis.
Its creation was a transcendent milestone in which all social, economic and political sectors participated. Subsequently, the land donation contest was held to install the University Campus of the local and regional community with a tenacious effort, three offers were presented: one at the exit of Río Cuarto towards Córdoba, the other before Holmberg and the third where it is currently located. located on campus. A jury composed of Architects from the National University of Córdoba, from the Ministry of Education was appointedand the Ministry of Public Works, who awarded the field to the one offered by the succession of Rómulo Remo Re, due to size, location, facilities for installing services, etc. It represents a typical example of community management because it was an achievement of mobilized men and institutions with clear objectives and great collective maturity, a fact that has been the hallmark of its genesis.
It was thus that building works began on the University Campus on the outskirts of the downtown area, on Route 36. Then a new stage began: dismantling, requesting the riverbank line, the altimetric survey of the land, perimeter fencing and getting the field electricity, telephone and provide water. The construction of the entrance and a checkpoint for surveillance was carried out, the mast and the flag were inaugurated, both donated by the Rural Society of Río Cuarto and the flag of ceremonies by the CGT of Río Cuarto.
The shield and motto contest was held and the current ones that allow the UNRC to be recognized were won and BELIEVE, CREATE, GROW is still being fulfilled.
The transportation service reached the door of the University and in about two months the building works were completed and on January 3, 1972, teaching began at the National University of Río Cuarto as it is today.
Developing
During the following decade, the original university campus was expanded with definitive buildings that complemented the first pavilions built, made more precarious by the urgency of the 1972 inauguration . In 1975, the rector of the UNRC, Dr. Luis Jorge Maestre, modified the departmental structure of the UNRC, creating the current five Faculties.
In 1993, after temporarily operating in assigned spaces, it was decided to build a 2,100 m2 building for the library. In 2011, the UNRC rehabilitated a railway shed to serve as the headquarters of the Senior Adults Program, including three large classrooms, a multipurpose room and a room for students. The new Microbiology and Immunology building for the Faculty of Exact Sciences was also inaugurated that same year.
At the beginning of 2013, the Ministry of Planning announced the financing of the new building for the Geology Department of the Faculty of Exact Sciences, with an investment of 13 million pesos.
For this reason, the potential of the UNRC is inextricably linked to its community and region, based on which it defines its dimensions, the pace of its expansion, its investigative work and turns its capacity for innovation to contribute to its development. The University develops its action within the system of autonomy and autarchy granted by current legislation. It has its seat and government in the city of Río Cuarto. Academic and administrative activities are centralized in the comfortable facilities of the university campus.
University
It is integrated by five Faculties: Agronomy and Veterinary ; Economic Sciences ; Exact, Physical , Chemical and Natural Sciences; Human Sciences and Engineering, all with a seat on the university campus. There are 6 student centers and the University Federation of Río Cuarto (FURC).
The number of teachers amounts to 1,800, about 20,000 undergraduate students and 700 postgraduate students, with an average annual income of 4,000 students and 528 administrative and technical support people make up the UNRC’s human resources cadre.
