Croatia is a European country located in the Balkans. It has an area of 56,594 square kilometers and a population of over 4.2 million people. The official language of Croatia is Croatian with many dialects throughout the country. The capital city is Zagreb and its largest city is Split. The official currency is the Croatian Kuna (HRK). Croatia has a vibrant culture with influences from both Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Other industries include fishing from its vast reserves of coastline as well as manufacturing for products such as clothing and furniture. Jutarnji List is an independent Croatian-language newspaper that was founded in 1992 and focuses on investigative journalism. It covers topics such as human rights violations, corruption, political unrest, and environmental issues. Both newspapers have an online presence with news articles available to read for free. Other major newspapers include Slobodna Dalmacija which focuses on politics; Poslovni Dnevnik which has a focus on economics; Globus which covers international news; Večernji Vjesnik which focuses on youth issues; and Novi list which reports on business news.
