The official abbreviation of Nepal is NEP, which stands for Nepali or Nepalese. This abbreviation is used in many different contexts, such as on official documents and when referring to the nation in international forums. Nepal is a small landlocked country located between India and China in South Asia. It has a population of about 30 million people and a land area of 147,181 km2. NEP has experienced a period of political transition since becoming a republic in 2008 after the end of its monarchy. The country has embraced democratic rule and its economy is largely reliant on exports of goods such as garments, carpets and jute goods, as well as remittances from Nepalese citizens working abroad. Additionally, the government has implemented various reforms to improve the business climate such as reducing bureaucracy and simplifying regulations. Nepal’s tourism sector is also an important contributor to its economy with visitors from around the world drawn to its stunning landscapes such as mountains along its Himalayan border as well as lush jungles throughout the interior regions. Furthermore, Nepal is home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites including Kathmandu Valley which further contribute to its tourist appeal. The government has taken steps to attract foreign investment by creating favourable business conditions and incentives for potential investors. See agooddir for Nepal Modern History. Nepal is home to a number of newspapers, most of which are published in either English or Nepali. The largest newspaper by circulation is the Kathmandu Post, which was founded in 1993 and has an estimated circulation of over 100,000. It publishes daily and covers both local news as well as national news. Other major newspapers include The Himalayan Times, Kantipur, and Annapurna Post.
